Reading Room Overview
Shipton's village hall, known as the Reading Room, is a facility at the heart of our community. It is used for village public events and is also bookable for private events for a very reasonable fee, subject to availablity. The hall is used to host regular village coffee mornings, pop-up pubs, film shows and seasonal events - for more details of events please see the village calendar.
The Reading Room underwent a major refurbishment in 2021 and has been designed to support the present and future needs of the village. It's features include:
- a beautifully redesigned main hall with capacity for 120 people (or 66 comfortably for a seated event);
- stackable tables and chairs, configurable to support seated events;
- a fully equipped kitchen area with cookers, hob, refridgerator, freezer, sink and washing-up area, water heaters;
- a well stocked supply of cutlery, crockery, glasses, cooking pans and utensils;
- a servery area from the kitchen to the main hall with security roll-shutters;
- a large television / display screen, licenced for UK terrestrial TV, and capability to support streaming services;
- Broadband network services;
- An entrance hall / cloakroom with 2 adjacent lavatories, (one is fully configured for disabled use) ;
- A storage cupboard with cleaning equipment;
- Central heating, remotely opening roof ventilation windows;
- A patio area at the front, occasionally used in better weather as a street-cafe.
